Bill Pennington.
Jay Peak, 7 miles and 2011 from the Canadian border in northern Vermont, has been very remote and only enthusiastic people can find it.
For those who did, the miles of this mountainof-
The border is formed as a cultural-like destination, attracting loyalty (if limited), including many Canadians ).
Most of the time, this is not the sum of the people you are talking about.
Although the annual snowfall usually outweighs other Eastern resorts, American tourists largely ignore Jay Peak.
A glance at local details helps explain why: Yes, there is water in the cabin and electricity in the outdated hotel.

Ten miles down the road, you can stay at Grandpa glendz for $35. a-night hostel-

All luxury and leisure activities in Jay Peak are north of Stowe, Sugarbush and Stratton --
In addition to entering the customs station in Quebec, everything in Vermont is in the north.
Where, oh, sloppy, untidy, but where did the lovely Jay Peak go?
\"This is certainly a cultural shock, but we will never lose sight of our core values,\" he said ,\"
Owner of Fengjie.
\"The Mountain and the freedom to enjoy it is still the essence of the experience.
But if we don\'t adapt, skiing itself may not survive.

Try to use it as a major resort with only stands
Winter business alone, coupled with too warm and snow-free winter, may lead to bankruptcy.
\"Jay Peak needs to do other things for people . \"Stenger said.
\"There\'s nothing wrong with this.
In many families, people who do not ski or do not ski.
There are children who don\'t want to ski for 7 hours a day.
\"Our hope is that the renovated mountain resort can be everything for all without offending any constituency.

The Up version began its transformation in 2008 with the construction of all-
Suite tram House Hotel, Phase 1 of development fully funded by federal EB5 program.
Management of the resort raised about $0. 25 billion through the project, which allows foreign investors to obtain green cards in exchange for at least $500,000 in investment in high-tech capital projects
Unemployed areas.
The project must create at least 10 new jobs.
Jay Peak has found more than 330 investors from 55 countries and is recruiting more investors.
The resort says it has translated into more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs in Development life.
When I first went to Jay Peak 25 years ago, I walked into an oversized cabin that looked like it was next to the elevator.
I asked where the base hotel is?
The woman behind the counter began to giggle when I knew I was at the base cottage.
But, oh boy, what a nice day to ski outside that little building.
No one will want to know where the foundation of the event is these days.
The hotel, the ice rink and the water park are all waving, right at the top of the resort\'s entrance road, and I admit that they were not harmonious at first.
But even me, a New England native, is a ski purist and I \'ve been to Jay\'s most diverse and fun trip on the most recent Thanksgiving weekend.
It starts with several quick drops on the reliable topto-
Snow fell on the east side of the mountain.
Due to the increased snow-making capacity and the phenomenon known as Jay Cloud, this becomes possible
Local residents insisted on hovering over the mountains during the snowstorm and have recently delivered nearly 1 feet of snow.
Jay Cloud is a myth for some and a meteorological reality for others, but the truth is that after most of the snowstorm, Jay Peak often reports 2 to 10 inch more than other resorts in Vermont
Some winter, this makes the total number of the whole season more than 400 inch.
Still, even Jay Cloud has its limitations on a warm weekend.
At noon, the sun softened the early snow. it was time for lunch.
Traditionally, lunch is a meal of almost no choice other than chicken fingers and hot dogs in the cafeteria, so most Jay veterans bring their own food, in the small food, there are sandwiches and narrow huts of Tupperware.
But on this trip, we found a seat at Alice\'s table, where the menu was filled with ingredients drawn from nearby farmers and foragers.
The varieties available are: Mao nut
Pumpkin soup, roast venison and grilled chicken breast with Vermont cheddar cheese.

But while \"new\" is certainly everywhere, significant efforts have been made to remind visitors of the past of the mountain. Old chairlift-
For example, the tower wheel was incorporated into the design of the cabin tower pole.
The table in Alice\'s table was created from the local recycled barn wood near the farm.
The blankets in the 57 suites were made 30 miles from Johnson\'s woolen mill.
Over the past few years, the only Jay Peak option after lunch has been skiing or snowboarding.
In fact, if the whole mountain is open in the long winter, we will walk back happily.

The new water park is right there and I admit I\'m sitting at 85-
Degree pump house water park, where I stare at the snow mountain trail I just crossed --
Paneled glass windows.
I don\'t feel too bad about this choice at all.
It wasn\'t until a few minutes later when I stood at the entrance to the pump house\'s iconic waterslide La Chute that I began to question my decision.
It seems fair to say that La Chute is designed for those self
Hard congratulate-
Core skiers may laugh at the softer pleasures offered by the water park.
If there is such a thing, La Chute is a double black drill water slide.
To get into La Chute, you walk into an upright, password-like room with a glass cover inside that closes slowly and horribly around you from head to foot.
The waiter has a countdown before pressing the button, which releases the living Board door floor of the chamber, and you drop at a speed of 45 miles per hour through the chute.
Experienced several twists and turns, including a long rise
Flip down and you will splash into the collection area.
I immediately understood why I had to tighten the rope on my swimsuit in advance.
La Chute is fierce and maybe not everyone has it, but it\'s worth it.
I will add that I am also happy with my next decision: Have a drink at 50foot-
Long mezzanine bar overlooking the pump room floor-
Floor playground. Mr.
2011 of accommodation bookings, Stenger said
12 seasons have grown by 120% over last season.
Part of the increase was due to the fact that the hockey team competed in the tournament at the skating rink that opened last year.
The combination of the ice rink and the water park seems to attract the youth team.
\"A large part of the increased income will be used to improve the mountain experience,\" he said . \"Stenger said.
\"It will mean more snow, better ticketing systems, and we plan to develop another 250 acres of trails on the western edge of the mountain.
There is a lot of natural snow here and we can add some tree runs in the middle and classic New England tongue twister.
\"The plan will open the area within three years.
Still, while visitors may have a lot of fun, not everyone is happy with Jay Peak\'s new direction.
Jay Peak\'s most determined and long-time devotees have the most chatter and protests on the Internet.
Regional development began in 2009 (
Although the jobs created by mass construction seem to have calmed down some objections).
During a different visit in February, when the tram House and hockey field had attracted more overnight visitors, I occasionally hear Jay Peak lifers on the elevator line which you can\'t hear before because it\'s hard to find the elevator line.
At the end of the day at the Tower Bar, Bob Green lives near the new port of Vt.
He noted that he never had to go through a row of tourists to get Sam Adams beer during the past Jay rush hour.
His friend Tommy Sanderson stood by him and added, \"That\'s right, but at least we have room to drink now.
\"GOJay Peak is not the easiest place to go if you go, it\'s part of its charm.
Everyone there has a devotee. Or a local. Or both.

Like the option, it takes about 10 miles if you are a college student or want to be a college student again.
If you go before the opening of the Jay hotel, when you visit the water park, you will have a short walk to and from the tram House hotel, so bring some clothes on your way back.
Northern Vermont is particularly cold with wet hair.
The rooms will have a connecting walkway after the hotel opens.
The resort has great dining options but at least one meal at the clock tower (802-326-4400)
Right on the way to the entrance to the town of Vt Montgomery.
The clock tower is a former country school, noisy and rustic, and the bar is packed with locals.
Order specials from the big black board and there always seems to be a wide variety of fish and steaks here, you should not be disappointed.
The previous version of the article mistakenly identified Bill Stenger as the sole owner of Jay Peak. He is a co-owner.
A version of this article was printed on page TR6 of The New York edition on December 11, 2011 with the title: in Vermont, slides and slopes are side by side.
