Strong winds hit Britain and western France on Monday, causing serious damage to flight schedules, ferry transport across the English Channel and the closure of the Port of Dover.
Passengers reported that some 130 flights at Gatwick and Heathrow were transferred or canceled due to the Katie storm, and they tried to land at London Airport in extreme winds.
Dan Prance told the British Press Association that the passengers on his flight from Budapest to Gatwick were so scared that when they finally landed after being transferred to Birmingham, many could not help but burst into tears.
\"You can see from the window that there was a huge storm outside and the wind and rain were hitting the glass,\" he said . \".
\"We were one step closer to the ground at Gatwick airport until the captain suddenly stopped landing and we shot at the sky again to try again.
\"Gatwick also reported some disruption to the road to the North Terminal, both of which advised passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.
The Port of Dover closed on Monday morning due to wind and waves, and ferry services connecting France and Britain were suspended.
Since then, the port has reopened, but the ferry company has reported delays due to the ship\'s slowdown due to bad weather.
